Preposizioni articolate

Those listed at the top of this chapter are called "Preposizioni semplici"(simple prepositions). "di","a","da","in", "su" and defining articles can unite in order to form the so called "preposizioni articolate". Look at the following example:
Laura e Paolo vanno a il ristorante Laur and Paolo go to the resturant.
An Italian will say:
Laura e Paolo vanno al ristorante Laura and Paolo go to the resturant.
"a" and "il" merge into the word "al": a "preposizione articolata". In ther table below you will find a list of all the "preposizioni articolate.

Expressions which can be used as prepositions.

There're a lot of expression in Italian which, though being adverbs, adjectives or even nouns can be used as prepositions. You should learn them because are extensively used, especially in the spoken language. I'll list below the most useful:
